Graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1981), Equivalence of a Licentiate in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (2008) and Specialist Title in Gynecology and Obstetrics granted by the National Executive Council of the Portuguese Medical Association (2015).

Medical Residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics at UFRJ (1985), Specialization in Gynecology Oncology at Karolinska Institute, Sweden (1983-1984), Master in Gynecology (1992) and Doctorate in Science (Gynecology) at UFRJ (1997). Post-Doctorate at the Laboratory of Enzymology and Metabolism Control - LabECoM, CCS - UFRJ, in 2008, Executive MBA in Health at IBMEC (2001). Specialist in Mastology, Gynecology and Obstetrics by AMB.

Former President of the Latin American Federation of Mastology and current President of the Senologic International Society (SIS) (2019-2021). Member of the Board of Directors of the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (2016-2020). Member of the Board of Directors of the School of Oncoplastic Surgery (USA). Member of the RINC-SLACOM Advisory Committee (2020). Coordinator of the Breast Cancer Specialists Committee of the Department of Strategic Programmatic Actions of the Ministry of Health's Primary Health Care Secretariat.

Member of the Editorial Board of the Revista do Colégio Brasileiro de Cirurgiões and Revista ecancer, Former General Editor of the Revista Brasileira de Mastologia. Former President of the Specialist in Mastology Committee (TEMA) at SBM.

Author of 36 complete articles published in national and international journals and 30 chapters in national and international books. Winner of the Madame Durocher awards from the National Academy of Medicine 1997 and 2003, Antônio Franco Montoro Award in 2014. Rondon Monograph Award in 1981.

Participation in more than 380 national and international congresses, having participated in the organizing committee in 43 of them. He supervised 5 master's and doctoral theses, having participated in 56 thesis boards.
