2- Silicone implants
A breast implant is a silicone pouch filled with silicone gel. Implants can be round or anatomical in shape and have a textured surface. There is a wide variety of projection sizes and profiles (measures the extension of an implant out of the body).
Implants may be placed under the pectoralis major muscle (submuscular) or over the muscle, and below the mammary glands (subglandular). This will depend on the body structure of each patient, to be evaluated by the surgeon.
In cases of reconstruction after mastectomy, the implants are always placed in the submuscular position. In this position, the implant is placed under the pectoralis major muscle.
Submuscular implant or expander
In breast implants, silicone in cohesive gel is used. In this shape, it provides the most natural feel and maintains the shape of the implant. The degree of cohesiveness of the silicone gel is very important for a better aesthetic result.
Breast implants have a textured surface that has the characteristic of preventing implant rotation and helping to avoid complications, such as the formation of capsular contracture.
